Customer request/problem
Our customer is an ETC system provider who was entrusted with the task of equipping several cities in a European country with a toll system (city toll). We were commissioned with the development of the technical back office. In the course of this project, our task was to design and implement the software.
The focus of the project was on planning the architecture, the software design and the implementation of a fail-safe, scalable, event-driven system for processing sensor data from toll transactions.
Implementation
The implementation was done in such a way that after planning the architecture and design, we integrated the interfaces of the different sensor systems as well as the business processes for commercial processing. The focus was on the system’s reliability and scalability.
Challenges
A toll system is usually in 24/7 operation for 20-30 years and thus places high demands on the stability and robustness of the individual subsystems. In the course of the project, these requirements were already taken into account in the system architecture and a stable and robust transaction platform was created.
In order to ensure that the system meets the requirements, all aspects including the simulation of failures of individual sub-components were covered by test automation. In this way, we guarantee uninterrupted operation and stable behaviour even in the event of temporary partial failures during the runtime.
Benefit for the customer
The benefit for our customer is a modern, scalable, fail-safe toll backend. The platform is highly configurable and can be used for further customer projects in the future.
